The Eastern Airports Group, which oversees seven airports in Jiangsu Province, registered a passenger throughput of more than 8.84 million in the first quarter of the year, which was 80.5% of the volume at the same period in 2019.
In March, both Yangzhou Taizhou International Airport and Xuzhou Guanyin International Airport reported higher passenger throughput than in 2019, while Changzhou Benniu International Airport also recovered its passenger volume to the 2019 level. Similar recoveries were also made at the Nanjing Lukou International Airport by late March.
The group saw a steady recovery of passengers for international trips. The group's flagship airport, Nanjing Lukou International Airport, handled 194,000 international passenger trips in the period, ranking 7th among domestic airports. Compared to the same period in 2019, the number of passenger trips to Milan and Tokyo increased by 120.5% and 52.3%, respectively. Meanwhile, the aircraft occupancy rate on flights to Phuket and Tokyo all exceeded 80%.
Additionally, Changzhou Benniu International Airport has resumed its Bangkok and Macau flights, with good performance in occupancy rate.
