A letter originally sent by China’s Xinhua Daily in 1950 to the Daily Worker, a British left-wing newspaper, recently returned home.

Ben Chacko, Editor of Morning Star, whose predecessor is Daily Worker, visited Xinhua Daily in Nanjing on September 22, and handed over the letter, a witness to the friendship between the two newspapers, to Xinhua Daily.

The Daily Worker was established by the Communist Party of Great Britain in 1930 and was renamed Morning Star in 1966. Now Morning Star remains the only newspaper in the UK with a socialist stance.

Established in Jan. 11, 1938, by the Communist Party of China, Xinhua Daily had reprinted reports from the Daily Worker on the World Anti-Fascist War for over a hundred times, according to archives from the Xinhua Daily historical database, while the Daily Worker highly commended Xinhua Daily's editorial stance.

The letter to former Daily Worker international editor Pat Devine was rediscovered in a clearing out of Morning Star’s old building.

After 75 years, a witness to the collaboration of the two newspapers across continents, is expected to herald the beginning of a new chapter of their relationship, as the two sides agreed to rebuild the connection by bolstering exchange and cooperation.
