State Grid announced on October 11 that Jiangsu Province has established China’s most comprehensive regional energy-storage and peak-shaving system.
Jiangsu is both an economic powerhouse and a large energy consumer in the country. The province’ power grid has reached a record peak load of 156 million kW. Meanwhile, the installed capacity of renewable electricity connected to the grid has exceeded 100 million kW, with significant solar-power output fluctuation during the daytime and in the evening.
The new system effectively integrates energy-storage resources across the province to achieve flexible control. This involves managing over 7.6 million kW of new-type energy storage and 3.73 million kW of pumped storage hydropower capacity, as well as innovatively connecting mobile energy-storage resources from new-energy vehicles.
