Cities in Jiangsu have organized a series of activities to mark the 31st World Water Day on March 22 and the 36th China Water Week from March 22 to 28.
In Nanjing, the capital of the province, efforts will be made to promote the enforcement of the Yangtze River Protection Law and Nanjing Yangtze River Shoreline Protection Regulation, showcase the achievements of river and lake renovation, and create a favorable environment to advance the modernization of water affairs management. The city will host an online quiz, display posters about water laws, raise awareness of water efficiency in schools, and encourage parents to plant trees with their children. Nanjing hopes to motivate the public in the protection of water resources and also save water in daily life.
On the morning of March 21, Xuzhou City began the water campaign with a launching ceremony held at China University of Mining and Technology. The city is facing multiple challenges, such as a surging imbalance between water supply and demand, limited water environment carrying capacity, and water shortage compared to a large population. Xuzhou has stepped up measures to address the challenges, including the integrated renovation of lakes and rivers, water resources utilization and waterbody ecological restoration.
On March 22, Funing County of Yancheng City held an activity in its Tiejun Square to help the public learn about and get involved in water conservation, use, and protection. On the morning of March 20, children from a kindergarten in Nantong’s Qidong Economic Development Zone joined their parents to visit a park newly built near the Touxinggang river. The park features an introduction to China’s "river chief" program, which designate people to help with environmental protection in bodies of water. Nantong’s water law enforcement also held an activity to help participants learn about water conservation.
