Jiangsu has 21 universities recognized on the list of the 2022 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), released by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy on August 15, highest among provincial-level regions in China.
ShanghaiRanking Consultancy scrutinized more than 2500 institutions this year and then published the list of the best 1000 universities in the world, including 163 in China’s mainland, 6 more than that in last year.
The coastal province’s 13 universities are on the Top 500 list, also a record high in the country. In particular, Nanjing University, Southeast University and Soochow University are listed in the Top 200 universities, with Nanjing University ranked among the world’s Top 150 for three consecutive years.
The other 10 institutions on the Top 500 list are Jiangsu University, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing Tech University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, China University of Mining and Technology, Jiangnan University, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, and Yangzhou University.
In the past decade, Jiangsu universities have made strides in building the comprehensive strength. By the end of 2021, Jiangsu universities had 92,000 professionals working in science and technology, including 79 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering and more than 1,800 national high-level talents. The number of patent transfers in Jiangsu universities ranked first in China for three consecutive years.
