East China’s Jiangsu Province has made new progress in building three transport infrastructure across the Yangtze River.
For the Changzhou-Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge, construction of the northern connection section has entered into the stage of building the superstructure through the cast-in-situ method. Efforts are in full swing to complete 90% of construction of roadbed, substructure, and 70% of superstructure by the end of the year.
Construction of another bridge linking Zhangjiagang in Suzhou and Rugao in Nantong has proceeded to installation of the first steel tube. The 29.8 km-long road includes a section of 7,859 meters over the river, and the southern suspension bridge has a span of 2,300 meters, the world's largest. There will be 138 steel tubes used for the southern main tower and the auxiliary tower, with the longest tube at 45.4 meters and heaviest at 78 tonnes.
In addition, the preliminary design of the road section for the planned Haimen-Taicang Yangtze River Tunnel has been approved. The two-way six-lane road will be 39.07 kilometers long including the underwater part of 11.185 kilometers long. The speed limit of the road, to be completed in six years, varies from 100 km/h to 120 km/h.
