Suzhou’s trade mission to Europe sees deals worth $5.954 billion

A business delegation from Suzhou City in Jiangsu Province arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on December 18 after ending a 10-day fruitful visit to Europe. 

Hu Xiaoyu, director of Taicang High-tech Zone’s Investment Promotion Bureau, said the trade mission from the zone visited leading companies including Valeo, an automotive supplier, helped overseas customers or investors to have a better understanding of Taicang and Suzhou, and also facilitated investment deals worth 13 billion yuan. 

The delegation’s 30 trade teams paid visits to 325 enterprises and agencies, saw the signing of 37 deals, and hosted or participated in 29 investment promotion activities. This helped reach agreement for planned investment of $5.954 billion. 

In addition, representatives from foreign-trade companies in the delegation visited 362 clients and gained new orders worth 3 billion yuan, mainly for exports. 

As a member of the delegation, Gu Li, general manager of Jiangsu Changjiang Paper Co Ltd, brought the company’s latest paper products with two suitcases to meet new and old clients in Italy, the Netherlands and other countries. 

“Export accounts for 70% of our business revenue, and most of clients are in Europe, so this visit is very helpful to the development of the company," Gu said. Gu was also pleased that an old client in Turin, Italy showed great interest in the company’s new products that the two sides immediately reached a letter of intent worth one million euros.
