The Jiangsu Exports Exhibition and Trade Centre was unveiled at a business event in Tilburg, the Netherlands on June 22 amid efforts to promote trade cooperation as China and the European country celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties this year.

This also marked a new milestone during the 28-year-old sister-province relationship between Jiangsu and North Brabant, a province in the south of the Netherlands. It’s China’s first two-way trade promotion project relying on China-Europe freight trains.

The center displays goods in six categories, such as textiles, smart appliances and kitchen supplies, produced by more than 90 enterprises from Jiangsu and the Yangtze River Delta including Sumec Group and Guoxin Sainty.

Based on the Nanjing-Tilburg freight train service, the project aims to build Jiangsu's first comprehensive platform in the country, integrating exhibition, e-commerce, storage, logistics and distribution functions. It will meet the needs of export-oriented enterprises in Jiangsu and the Yangtze River Delta, and let freight trains play an important role in the province’s foreign trade.

Sun Jin, deputy director of the Department of Commerce of Jiangsu Province, said that Jiangsu is the largest trade partner of the Netherlands in China. The total imports and exports volume between the two sides reached $21.8 billion in 2021, accounting for nearly one-fifth of China’s total China with the country. In 2022, Jiangsu’s foreign trade with the Netherlands has also increased by more than 20% year on year.

The Nanjing-Tilburg freight train service, the second trade route of its kind between China and the European country, recorded 24 trips in both directions since its opening in last May, delivering goods in 1,990 TEUs and with a market value of $126 million.
