Jiangsu leads university majors ranking in China

Jiangsu ranked first among provincial-level regions in China, according to the Best Chinese Majors Ranking released by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, a company dedicating to research on higher education intelligence and consultation. 

The company looked at 568 majors for bachelor’s degrees in Chinese universities and then listed the top 50% of universities that offer the majors. For example, one list has 41 universities ranked in the major of philosophy, and another list for the major of economics includes 201 Chinese universities.

Altogether, 30,242 academic programs by 990 universities were covered by the rankings. Jiangsu has 59 universities with 2,501 programs honored, the largest number in the country. 

From another aspect, Jiangsu’s universities recognized in the rankings are home to 164 majors graded at A+, third highest after Beijing and Shanghai. The province also has 471 majors graded at A, 581 majors at B+ and 1,285 majors at B. 

Soochow University led the province with 135 majors on the list, followed by Yangzhou University (121) and Nanjing Normal University (107). Nanjing University ranked among the top 10 universities in China with 39 A+ majors. Southeast University, Nanjing Agricultural University, Jiangnan University and China Pharmaceutical University had 22, 12, 11 and 11 majors graded at A+. In addition, universities in Jiangsu claimed first place in 61 majors in the country.
