East China’s Jiangsu Province has ten winners on the latest ranking list of top 50 national high-tech zones released by Ministry of Science and Technology, the largest number among provincial level regions in the country.
Jiangsu took the national lead for five years in a row with 18 high-tech zones participating the 2021 comprehensive assessment. The zones in Suqian, Huai’an, Lianyungang and Wuxi all climbed up on the list by 17, 17, 9 and 7 spots respectively.
In adopting the innovation-driven development strategy, Jiangsu has vigorously promoted the upgrade of high-tech zones in recent years, which have made strides in many indicators, such as innovation capacity, entrepreneurial dynamics, international competitiveness, sustainability and livability.
In 2021, the industrial output value of high-tech zones in the province increased by 18.3% year on year, accounting for 64.2% of the total generated by enterprises above designated size.
At present, Jiangsu boasts 54 high-tech zones at or above the provincial level, including 18 at the national level. Jiangsu is the first province in China to establish a national high-tech zone in each of its cities that have subordinate districts.
