The core area of Taizhou Port introduced the latest progress in high-quality development during a press conference on October 30.
Home to 9 berths for vessels above the 10,000 tons-class, the core area has opened over 50 container liner transportation routes to link with 150 countries and regions in the world. In 2019, the port area completed handling of 351,000 TEUs, with its average growth leading ports along the Yangtze River for five years in a row.
The core area is at the center of the economic circles of Shanghai and Nanjing. It is one of the Class I open ports in the country and also approved to engage in direct shipping link across the Taiwan Straits. In recent years, the core area has kept improving the capacity and service and promoted the high-quality development of port logistics industry.
Taizhou’s container terminal will handle 1.2 million TEUs a year when putting into operation, making it the largest trade center of grain, oil and food in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
The core area has reached agreements with Shanghai Port Group, Chongqing Port and Taicang Port, opening a number of direct shipping routes to achieve active coordination among many ports and a combined river-sea transportation. The area has also increased cooperation with leading companies including Zhonggu Shipping, Sinotrans, COSCO Shipping and Antong to open direct routes to the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the southeast coast and the northeast region.
Wang Xiaofei, deputy secretary of the core area’s Party Working Committee, said the port aims to increase the handling capacity to one million TEUs a year during the 14th Five Year Plan period.
