Wuxi has taken a series of measures to enhance overseas cooperation at various levels, such as industrial partnerships, during the International Month program held concurrently with the International Cherry Blossom Festival.
The 2023 Wuxi Marathon on March 19 attracted 33,000 runners from 37 countries and regions. He Jie broke the national record for the men's marathon in China set in 2007, with a time of 2 hours 7 minutes 30 seconds, and finished 11 seconds behind winner Enock Onchari of Kenya in the event.
Additionally, Wuxi Marathon provided a unique opportunity for participants to enjoy the beautiful landscape as well as its progress in opening up and building itself into an international city.
At the opening ceremony of International Month, Wuxi also entered into a sister-city relationship with more cities such as Bocholt in Germany, bringing the total number of its international sister cities to 50. The city has also established economic and trade cooperation with areas in 224 countries and regions.
During the program, executives from multinational companies such as GE Healthcare, Panasonic, Infineon Technologies and LG Chem visited Wuxi to discuss exchanges and deepen cooperation. The city saw the signing of agreement for six international economic and trade projects including the Bekaert AC (Advanced Cord ) Project. Wuxi announced a total of 14 agreements reached with 10 countries and regions worth more than $3 billion.
Data shows that Wuxi has newly approved 51 foreign-invested projects with a registered foreign investment of $465 million since the beginning of this year. Such projects cover key industries and cutting-edge fields including IC, medical devices, artificial intelligence, and technical services. From January to February, the city's actual use of foreign investment reached $1.4 billion, double that of the same period last year.
Furthermore, Wuxi officially launched five initiatives to become an international city, covering technological innovation, economic development, urban construction, living environment, and cultural exchange.
By 2025, Wuxi plans to add 10 innovation platforms with international influence, attract 60 foreign-funded enterprises to settle their provincial level headquarters in the city, increase the number of international sister cities to 75, and host at least 10 international exhibitions and conferences.
