Suzhou opens international handicrafts fair

The Suzhou International Handicrafts Fair held the opening ceremony in the city’s Xiangcheng District on July 30.

Along with the fair was an international forum on the development of handicrafts, which attracted many experts and scholars from the literature, arts and crafts sectors.

The event also unveiled a workstation to facilitate handicraft creation and the Suzhou New Era Cultural and Economic Research Center-Xiangcheng Workstation, which will help turn Xiaojing Village into a vibrant hub of handicrafts and culture resources.

The event received support from many international handicraft experts including Edric Ong, former president of the ASEAN Handicraft Promotion and Development Association, Beatric Kaldun, cultural officer of UNESCO, and Alberto de Betolaza, former WCC president for Latin America. In making video speeches, they wished for the successful and innovative development of intangible cultural heritage in Xiangcheng.
