Jiangsu’s public transport system back on track

The public transport system in Jiangsu Province is continuing to get back on track as more and more people resume work and normal life following the disruption of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Data from the Jiangsu Department of Transport showed over 2.63 million vehicles exited from the province’s highways on March 19, up 1.6 percent than a month ago and 28.8 percent than in last year.

On the same day, over 5.66 million trips were made through the province’s highway (101,000), railway (159,000), city bus (5.36 million), waterway and air transport, up 1.1 percent than a month ago.

The province operated 181 inter-provincial bus routes, 11.2 percent of the total, 1,092 inter-city bus routes, 41.4 percent of the total, 258 inter-county bus routes, 29.4 percent of the total, and 287 intra-county bus routes, 31.4 percent of the total.

At present, the province’s 13 cities that have subordinate districts and all counties, county-level cities and districts have resumed local bus service, ready to change in line with the requirements to resume work and combat COVID-19.

On March 19, the province’s city bus service received about 2.14 million passengers in total, up 1 percent than a month ago or a triple increase than on March 1.
