Jiangsu’s 29th medical assistance team to Zanzibar in Tanzania has recently carried out a popular science activity promoting hand hygiene to help reduce incidence of getting infectious diseases.
The Pemba island of Zanzibar is of weak infrastructure and poor economic conditions. The team, with medics from the No.2 Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, has seen that many cases of infectious diseases are related to people’s poor health habits.
The team then decided to launch a popular science activity, themed Clean Hands for All, on March 11 in a local middle school Kangani, helping children avoid infection on the island. In the activity, the team played hand-washing video and bilingual slide show in English and Swahili, explaining to the children the standard 12 steps of washing hands.
