Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Committee, visited Lianyungang City on March 18 and 19, calling for driving economic growth with important and major projects.
Lou stressed efforts in the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) and coordination in advancing economic and social development in a scientific manner. He said it’s necessary to get back the production and life fully on track, adopt a systematic planning in urban development, free trade zone construction, port renovation and opening up, and drive the economic growth with high-level key, major projects.
Lianyungang is home to one of the seven petrochemical industrial bases recognized by the State Council. In Xuwei New District, Lou inspected the construction site of the Sinochem Fine Chemicals Industrial Park and other projects. With a focus on establishing a leading industrial system, efforts are needed to attract more high-quality projects, complete construction and opening of projects earlier, and build up momentum for long-term development, said Lou.
The China (Jiangsu) Pilot Free Trade Zone (JSFTZ) is one of six such pilot zones designated by the State Council in August 2019 in a strategic move to press ahead with reform and opening up in the new era. The JSFTZ consists of three areas- the Nanjing Area, the Suzhou Area and the Lianyungang Area.
The Lianyungang area’s port and shipping service zone has a designed capacity of handling nearly 50 million tons of cargo, with 4.78 million TEUs handled last year. Lou said a major task for the port is to develop the FTZ area and this needs creative ideas, bold reform measures and giving full play of the combined port-rail transport mode to develop a modern port.
As pharmaceutical industry is booming in the city, Lou visited a smart TCM factory of Jiangsu Kanion Pharmaceutical. He said the development of TCM is facing new opportunities and it’s necessary to fully apply new technologies such as Big Data and Cloud Computing to make TCM standardized, modern and international.
During his visit to Xinmin Village in Liji Town, Lou went to a farmer’s house and learned about housing and living conditions.
Lou Qinjian affirmed the achievement made in Lianyungang's COVID-19 prevention and control and resumption of production. He said Lianyungang plays an important role in the province’s opening up and the current priority in combating the pandemic is to stop the imported case. It’s necessary to improve care and support service, stay informed of the COVID-19 development, ensure precise control measures, help enterprises further resume work and production, and support the full economic development.
