The cross-border e-commerce import and export value increased by 47.5% in the first quarter of the year in Jiangsu Province’s 16 comprehensive bonded zones and 6 bonded logistics centers, according to Nanjing Customs District.

Zhang Ju, manager of Kuajingniao Supply Chain Management Co Ltd in Wujiang District, Suzhou City, said the sales on major e-commerce platforms are improving, particularly surging orders for milk powder have increased shipment pressure. The company’s workers have been busy weighing, packaging and delivering boxes for consumers at the district’s cross-border e-commerce zone.

To cope with the rising imports through e-commerce, Wujiang Customs House, affiliated to Nanjing Customs District, has effectively used video inspections, on-site random checks and other means to guide the sorting of goods and improve packaging efficiency. Efforts have also been made to support enterprises in adopting the use of retail barcodes to ensure smooth customs clearance.

In the first quarter of this year, Wujiang Customs House inspected and approved 35,500 parcels in the cross-border e-commerce bonded import mode, a 42-fold increase. The number of parcels and value for such e-commerce imports at Nantong Comprehensive Bonded Zone increased by 277% and 301%, respectively.

Nanjing Customs District has taken a slew of measures to help consumers purchase overseas goods more easily, such as improving the information filling for added goods and making the promotion declaration paperless. The returned goods center for e-commerce imports was also used fully to improve supervision.

In addition, progress was made in e-commerce exporting. On April 18, in Nanjing’s cross-border e-commerce park, an outlet of Jinling Customs House completed the inspection of household products worth more than 1.85 million yuan, which will be shipped to the overseas warehouse before delivery to customers. This marks the first cross-border e-commerce export to overseas warehouse in the city.
