Taizhou Port’s cargo throughput in 2020 reaches 301 million tons

Chinese ports reported positive results in 2020 and fifteen of the world’s top 20 ports in terms of cargo throughput are located in the country, according to the latest ranking.

Among them, Suzhou Port, Zhenjiang Port, Nantong Port and Taizhou Port, all in East China’s Jiangsu Province, ranked 7th, 14th, 16th and 18th on the list respectively.

Taizhou Port handled 301.11 million tons of cargo in 2020, up 6.6% year on year, and crossed the amount threshold to be regarded as a major port in the maritime shipping industry.

Data showed Taizhou Port doubled its cargo throughput of 100 million tons in seven years, which then reached 300 million tons in just two years. The port has maintained a strong growth this year. It handled 22,300 containers in February, up 30% year on year, and 22.81 million tons of cargo, up 25% year on year.

The market share of Taizhou Port has been increasing among Jiangsu’s ports along the river and sea, rising from 8.8% in 2010 to 13.8% in 2019. The port handled 16.1% of coal in Jiangsu, 9.9% of metal ore, 15.6% of mining and construction materials and 41.6% of grains, earning the name of "the No. 1 port for grain transportation" in the province.

The container throughput of Taizhou port was 319,300 TEUs last year, of which 43.85% were for foreign trade.
