Nanjing has opened 22 air-raid shelters for local residents to escape heat waves starting July 8. These well-equipped shelters will be available from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily until mid-September.

Most of these new shelters are situated near scenic spots and residential areas. Additionally, the city has enhanced the amenities and facilities, improving access and ensuring electricity supply before the opening.

The shelters’ interiors have been designed to reflect Nanjing’s geographic and cultural characteristics. For example, some shelters highlight landmarks of Xuanwu Lake, ancient temples, and the historic southern old town, and two others emphasize Buddhism culture and revolutionary history.
