A total of 34 representatives from universities and enterprises in the United States visited Nanjing during the 2024 GYLD (Global Young Leaders Dialogue) China Tour from June 29 to 30.
The event was jointly hosted by the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies, the
North America Bureau of the China International Communications Group (CICG), and Nanjing University. As part of the Global Young Leaders Dialogue, the tour aims to enhance the understanding of China and foster friendships by inviting international youth to explore various areas in China.
The representatives visited the Zhonghua Gate and Nanjing City Wall Museum to learn about the city’s history and cultural relics. On the banks of the Qinhuai River, they explored the time-honored Qinhuai lanterns and joined workshops on the craft. At the Nanjing Yunjin Museum, they delved into the Chinese tradition of weaving Yunjin brocade, an intangible cultural heritage, and appreciated the exquisite Yunjin works as well as their incorporation into modern life.
Many of the members were visiting China for the first time, noting their experience in China was completely different from what they had imagined. They found Nanjing to be a friendly city and were impressed by the hospitality and kindness of its residents.
In the Xiaoxihu Historic Area, they walked into a residential compound and talked with locals, learning about how this landmark urban renewal project preserves history while accommodating modern life needs.
At Nanjing University, they engaged in exchanges with teachers and students on various topics, such as "Response to Global Climate Change" and "Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage".
