A delegation led by Chen Zhu, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and also chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party (CPWDP), visited Jiangsu Province to perform democratic supervision of the ecological protection of the Yangtze River.
Wu Zhenglong, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and chairman of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress, met with the team, while governor Xu Kunlin participated in the team’s supervision.
Chen said Jiangsu has shown a highly responsible attitude towards the people by giving priority to the river’s ecological restoration and pursuing the green development path.
In the view of Chen, the province as an economic powerhouse has overcome many difficulties, achieved stable economic recovery and also upgraded its industrial structure towards high-quality development despite the unprecedented test of COVID-19.
Chen also said the CPWDP is one of the participating groups of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee and more specialized in fields of medicine and health, population and human resources, and ecological environment. In performing democratic supervision, one of main functions of the CPPCC system, the CPWDP Central Committee also saw this survey as a valuable chance to learn about best practices in Jiangsu.
Wu said in recent years Jiangsu has continued to implement the 10-year fishing ban in the Yangtze River, carried out systematic ecological restoration of the river, and promote solid progress in the renovation of Taihu Lake.
The province is committed to promoting high-quality economic development and creating a high-quality life for the people through rigorous protection of the ecological environment, according to Wu.
He also said the province will coordinate efforts to cut carbon emissions, reduce pollution, and expand sustainable growth, bringing the high-quality low-carbon growth to the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
