At noon on March 7, the Haitangli communal canteen, located in the Xinghai Neighborhood of Yushan Subdistrict, welcomed patrons including 81-year-old Zhao and his wife, who regularly come for lunch.

The menu featured Cantonese Poached Chicken at 15 yuan ($2.07), Braised Lion's Head Meatballs for 7 yuan, Stir-fried Mixed Vegetable for 6 yuan, rice for 1 yuan, and free soup. With a government-subsidized coupon, the meal cost only 10 yuan. The couple described the food as “convenient, tasty, and affordable."

The canteen is not the only one in Changshu city, which boasts 291 communal canteens, serving over 120,000 residents as part of efforts to improve people’s wellbeing.

In the Government Work Report delivered by Premier Li Qiang, we will work to provide inclusive public services, meet essential needs, and provide a cushion for those most in need. Steadily improving public services and social security, promoting social harmony and stability, and continuously enhancing the people's sense of gain, happiness, and security.

Wuxi’s vice mayor Lu Min, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, remarked she was deeply impressed by the report’s emphasis on advancing community-supported at-home elderly care services and improving the rural elderly care services network.

Lu stated that Wuxi is actively exploring the use of artificial intelligence, such as DeepSeek, in elderly care and other sectors. The city aims to upgrade elderly care services and improve efficiency while focusing on the community’s diverse needs for medical treatment, health and care.
