Jiangsu Week to highlight tradition and innovation at Osaka Expo

Jiangsu will host a series of activities from May 20 to 22 at the 2025 World Expo, which opened in Osaka on April 13 and will run until October 13.

The Osaka Expo is being held at Yumeshima –meaning “dream island” –a reclaimed industrial waste site. it has attracted participation from 158 countries and regions, as well as seven international organizations, and is expected to welcome over 28 million visitors.

The China Pavilion, covering approximately 3,500 square meters, is one of the largest foreign pavilions at the expo. Under the theme “Building a Community of Life for Man and Nature — Future Society of Green Development,” it features soil samples collected from the near and far sides of the moon by China's Chang'e-5 and Chang'e-6 missions, the capsule from the deep-sea submersible "Jiaolong", a humanoid robot, and a multimedia installation themed on the "24 Solar Terms."

According to the event plan, the China Pavilion will host the “Jiangsu Week” from May 20 to 22 under the theme "Joining Hands with Beautiful Jiangsu for a Green Future". Activities will include an opening ceremony, trade forums, exhibitions, cultural and tourism promotions, displays of intangible cultural heritage (ICH), and city promotions.

Jiangsu’s representative ICH inheritors will showcase traditional crafts such as Suzhou embroidery, Suzhou Pingtan storytelling and ballad singing, guqin music, Yixing zisha pottery, and tea ceremonies. Featured ICH items will include Nanjing Yunjin Brocade, Xuzhou scented sachets, Yancheng porcelain carving, and Taizhou wood carving.

In addition, cities such as Wuxi, Suzhou and Yancheng will organize promotional events highlighting Jiangsu’s green development achievements and strengthening international exchanges and cooperation.
