Over the past weekend, Jiangsu’s railway network experienced the peak of this year's Spring Festival travel rush, with students returning to school, migrant workers heading to jobs, and tourists on the move, the Jiangsu Railway Group announced on February 17.
Railway passenger trips on both days exceeded one million, reaching a record high of 1.1 million on Sunday, February 16. The province’s 42 train stations saw the season’s highest passenger departures, with two-thirds located in northern and central Jiangsu.
To accommodate the post-holiday travel surge, railway authorities added extra trains on popular routes to Shanghai, Nanjing, Beijing, and other destinations from northern and central Jiangsu. Stations including Xuzhou East and Lianyungang increased staffing at security checkpoints, platforms, and exits to ensure an efficient flow of passengers.
As of February 16, Jiangsu's railways had transported over 28.36 million passenger trips since the Spring Festival travel rush began on January 14, averaging 834,000 trips per day. Jiangsu leads the Yangtze River Delta region, which also includes Zhejiang, Anhui and Shanghai, in total passenger trips, growth rate, and the highest daily passenger volume.
