Deputy Voice: Letting traditional opera shine in new era

Editor’s Note: On the afternoon of March 5, Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, participated in a deliberation with his fellow deputies from the delegation of Jiangsu Province at the third session of the 14th National People's Congress. Six Jiangsu NPC deputies including Zhao Jianjun, Li Xiaona and Ke Jun, spoke at the meeting. 

Ke Jun, general manager of Jiangsu Performing Arts Group, shared his dedication to Kunqu Opera, having studied and performed it for over 40 years. He emphasized the importance of preserving the cultural heritage of traditional opera in its authentic form while innovating. "The aspiration for beauty is universal, and opera allows people from different cultural backgrounds to communicate, connect, and integrate well. It plays an important role in Chinese culture’s global outreach,” he said.
