A ceremony was recently held in Wau, South Sudan to mark completion of renovation of the Dongxing Police Station, which was named after a Chinese peacekeeping police officer after he donated money to help rebuild it.

Sun Dongxing, a former Chinese United Nations Police (UNPOL) officer, donated his personal savings of nearly $14,000 in three times to rebuild a police center and two police stations since 2008, including one station named after him.

A native of Xuzhou in Jiangsu Province, Sun, 37, was among 18 Jiangsu UN peacekeeping personnel deployed to South Sudan in 2008.

This year, the ninth Chinese UNPOL contingent renovated the Dongxing Police Station with the support of Tianyuan Group, which is building a China-aided bridge in South Sudan. The renovation started at the end of September and was completed on October 10.

The police station features a blue roof and white walls. Locals say that the two colors symbolize peace, and the police station represents the deep friendship between the two countries.
