The number of accidents caused by special equipment and related deaths in Jiangsu Province have both dropped year on year.
As China’s largest province in special equipment production and usage, the province had 2.019 million units of special equipment, accounting for one-seventh of the country’s total. The amount of special equipment rose by 10 percent year on year.
The province has reported no major accident involving special equipment for years. In the past eleven months this year, the number of special equipment accidents and deaths decreased by 65 percent and 50 percent compared with the same period in 2019.
On December 17, inspectors of the Jiangsu Provincial Institute of Special Equipment Safety Supervision and Inspection visited the overhaul site of Sinopec Jinling Petrochemical.
The overhaul is the first shutdown inspection of the company’s No. 3 equipment since its commissioning in 2017. The work involves 289 pressure vessels and 1,017 pipelines, a daunting challenge.
Liu Zubing, deputy manager of the company’s second chemical department, said the device plays an important role in production and any accident can lead to a huge loss for both the enterprise and society.
