Jiangsu’s rural work conference was held in Nanjing on January 20, outlining the plans and priorities related to agriculture, rural areas and rural people this year.

Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, said the province will continue a strategic approach for issues concerning agriculture, rural areas and rural people, promote the concurrent modernization of agriculture and countryside, and advance the rural revitalization campagin across the board.

In the meeting, Jiangsu governor Wu Zhenglong said efforts will be made to further understand and implement the new development paradigm and make more achievements.

Yang Shiyun, director of the province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said it’s necessary to keep stable the production and supply of important agricultural products and also realize the steady growth of grain area and yield. The province will also vigorously promote the high-quality development of rural industries and support efficient farming and urban agriculture in accordance with local conditions.

Chen Jie, director of Jiangsu’s water resources department, said a number of key projects will be developed to improve response to droughts and floods and also revitalize the countryside.

Efforts will be made to build rural roads, enhance the rural road network, accelerate the construction of high-speed railways and suburban railways, and improve the connection between the major transport arteries and the rural road network, according to Ding Feng, deputy director of the Department of Transport.
