The Lianyungang City Museum has completed the digital reproduction of wooden slips excavated from ancient tombs at Yinwan Village in Donghai County, Jiangsu Province in 1993, which are first-class cultural relics.

Five of the 12 relics collected by the museum received a 3D scanning, while the rest were scanned in two dimensions. The 3D modelling, with a scale error of less than 1 mm, is enhanced by using high resolution photographs, about 400-600 images for each relic, to present the original color and texture.

A total of 126 wooden and bamboo slips were found during excavation of the tombs from the Western Han Dynasty more than 2000 years ago.

In the past, the museum has taken photos and collected data of the relics preserved in containers filled with nitrogen to provide protection. The computer technology advances have made it possible to present the artifacts in the most vivid manner.
