Wu Zhenglong stresses pandemic control and economic development in visiting Lianyungang

Wu Zhenglong, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, called for efforts to coordinate the COVID-19 prevention and control with the economic and social development during a visit to Lianyungang city on May 7 and 8.

Wu stressed the importance to have a full, accurate and comprehensive implementation of the new development philosophy as well as measures to accelerate the building of a new development pattern, stabilize economic growth and also ensure safety.

At the Shenghong integrated refining and petrochemical complex in Xuwei New Area, Wu encouraged the enterprise to align its development with national strategic needs and pursue an innovation-driven growth. He urged Xuwei New Area to be a role model of safety, low carbon and high-quality development by adopting the most advanced technology, the strictest requirements and the highest standards.

At Zhongfu Shenying Carbon Fiber Co Ltd, Wu said it’s necessary to step up measures for S&T innovation, achieve breakthroughs in core technologies, and promote the development of high-end equipment. He encouraged the company to play a good role in leading upstream and downstream enterprises, and help improve the modernization of the industrial chain. The relevant provincial departments should actively build innovation platforms and create a better environment for the business innovation, said Wu.

During his visit to Jiangsu Kanion Pharmaceutical Co Ltd, a large traditional Chinese medicine enterprise, Wu learned about the extraction of raw materials and the production of preparations. He hoped the enterprise can speed up the integration of TCM and modern science and contribute to the fight against the epidemic.

At the Shiliang River Reservoir, Wu called for integrated management of the natural resources so that ecological improvement can bring dividends to the general public and also stand the test of practice and history. Efforts are needed to take early action to identify the risks of water conservation projects, strengthen risk management, monitoring and response, and ensure the safety of rivers and lakes for the welling of the people. At the Wuzhang river gate renovation site, Wu underlined quality, safety and efficiency to eradicate risk, improve ecological environment and enhance people's livelihood.

Wu also went to inspect wheat field in Zhangwan Township and exchanged ideas with local farmers. He noted the importance to build quality farmlands that are resilient to flood or draught and can increase yield stability in all weather conditions. The agricultural and rural departments should strengthen guidance to help improve field management and ensure a bumper summer harvest.

During his visits to the businesses, agricultural infrastructures and key projects, Wu said China's epidemic prevention and control measures have proved to be science-based and effective. As the COVID-19 situation remains grim and complicated, massive coordination efforts are needed to overcome the challenges and promote the economic and social development.
