The Phase II Project of a 300,000 DWT channel at Lianyungang Port has recently been completed, as announced by the city’s Transportation Bureau at a press conference on December 18, marking the port’s entry into the ranks of international deep-water ports after 14 years of construction of the project.
Lianyungang Port is bordered by the Bohai Bay in the north, the Yangtze River Delta in the south, the Yellow Sea in the east, and the New Eurasian Land Bridge, an international passageway linking the Pacific and the Atlantic, in the west. Notably, the channel for 300,000 DWT vessels is the highest grade in China built on the open muddy coast area.
Mao Shantong, director of the Transportation Bureau, said this channel will facilitate domestic and international trade, and enhance its role in the land-sea intermodal transport.
