During the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) held in Beijing on October 18, Jiangsu Province unveiled new projects aimed at win-win cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Lianyungang Port Holding Group and Kazakhstan's national railway company inked a strategic agreement to elevate international land-sea multimodal transport.
Yang Long, chairman of the group, said that the China-Kazakhstan (Lianyungang) logistics cooperation base, launched in 2014 as the first infrastructure project under the initiative, complements the Kazakhstani dry port in the Horgos-Eastern Gate Special Economic Zone, creating two central hubs of the transport corridor.
In the new agreement, the two sides agreed to jointly operate cargo routes that link Asia-Pacific countries, China and Kazakhstan, construct a container terminal in Aktau port, expand multimodal transport across the Caspian Sea, and support the continued development of China-Europe freight train services, according to Yang.
Currently, the logistics cooperation base operates six routes through China’s five border ports. Once the terminal project is complete, it will further integrate the base and the dry port for coordinated development.
Jiangsu’s HOdo Group has played a key role in the construction and development of the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEZ) in Cambodia together with enterprises from the two countries. The SSEZ is home to 175 enterprises and organizations from China, Europe, the US, Southeast Asia and other regions. During the forum, SSEZ and the Phnom Penh branch of Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited signed an agreement for bilateral currency promotion cooperation, including provisions of loans and settlements in RMB and Cambodian currency.
In addition, Jiangsu Overseas Cooperation Investment Co Ltd, Abu Dhabi Ports Company, and Trina Solar signed a memorandum of understanding to advance the construction of Trina Solar's industrial park, which will feature net-zero emissions.
