Jiangsu’s trade with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative increased from 1.16 trillion yuan in 2013 to 2.23 trillion yuan in 2022, achieving an annual average growth rate of 6.5%, according to Nanjing Customs.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the BRI. Holding a unique position in both the land-based and maritime trade routes, Jiangsu Province has been promoting opening-up and facilitating the flow of people, logistics and data under the framework of BRI.
Over the past decade, Jiangsu has ssignificantly expanded its trade volume with BRI countries and also optimized its trade structure, resulting in a total imports and exports value of 15.4 trillion yuan.
One notable example of the province’s active role in the BRI is the China-Kazakhstan (Lianyungang) logistics cooperation base, which was launched in 2014 as the first infrastructure project under the initiative. Currently, the base handles more than 400 types of products, including home appliances, medicine and building materials, making it a crucial hub for goods transportation between Asia and Europe.
In addition, Jiangsu recorded 1,667 China-Europe freight train trips and a total cargo value of 23.84 billion yuan in the first nine months of the year, marking year-on-year increases of 13.4% and 13.5%, respectively.
