A new high-speed railway linking Nanjing and Shanghai commenced operation on September 28, expanding the rail transport network in the Yangtze River Delta.

It also brings Jiangsu’s total railway mileage to more than 4,500 kilometers, including more than 2,500 kilometers of high-sped track – making it one of the longest in the country.

The 278.5-kilometer line has a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour and includes eight stations: Nanjing South, Jurong, Jintan, Wujin, Jiangyin, Zhangjiagang, Changshu and Taicang.

This launch marks the fourth railway line between Shanghai and Nanjing and also the second intercity rail line. Initially, ten daily train trips will be offered, subject to adjustments based on passenger demand.

Moreover, the railway construction and service also emphasize sustainable development and distinct cultural elements.

In recent years, Jiangsu has stepped up efforts to expand its rail network. Currently, the province has about 1,000 kilometers of railway lines under construction.
