The China-Pacific Island Countries Agriculture Cooperation and Demonstration Center was unveiled at the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences on May 9.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the academy started establishing the center in May 2020. Since the 1980s, the academy, which is based in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Provice, has carried out cooperation projects mainly focused on growing vegetables and rice breeding with Samoa, Vanuatu and other Pacific Island countries, achieving remarkable results.
Yi Zhongyi, president of the academy, said the center will be mainly about crops, fisheries, aquaculture, farming machinery and equipment, and deep processing of agricultural products. Efforts will be made to advance technology innovation, organize training, and promote talent exchange.
The center will also implement pilot projects to support agricultural development, improve people's livelihood and enhance friendship. Construction of the permanent venue for the center will be completed by 2025.

Participants in the launch ceremony had a tour of an exhibition of achievements between the two sides, such as high-yielding crop varieties, deep processing technology of agricultural products, and green farming practices. They also learned about smart greenhouse systems, agricultural information platforms, and other projects at the academy.
