The Department of Education of Jiangsu Province has recently released a four-pronged action plan to support the pilot digital yuan program in the educational sector.
One key task relates to the scenario of paying education fees. Efforts will be made to provide a new channel for people to pay fees for tuition, accommodation, tests and other services in digital yuan.
The second task is to facilitate the use of digital yuan in school. This involves encouraging the coverage of digital yuan application, connecting the new payment with existing school platforms, supporting students to use digital yuan in canteens, supermarkets, courier service outlets, and school-based businesses.
Thirdly, fiscal expenditure will also be processed through digital yuan. Jiangsu will gradually promote the use of digital yuan for fund collection and payment in schools at all levels, and pilot its use for tax payment, government procurement, travel reimbursement and other fields.
The fourth approach is to explore the field of people's livelihood related to education. Jiangsu will support schools at all levels to distribute student scholarships and grants in the form of digital yuan and also explore its use in endeavors of scientific and technological innovation and talent recruitment.
According to the plan, by the end of 2023, Jiangsu's education sector aims to make notable progress in adopting digital yuan transactions, especially in terms of collecting fees, examination registration fees and scholarship distribution. Each school directly under the provincial Department of Education shall carry out at least one digital yuan application project.
By the end of 2025, Jiangsu will basically build a sound operation and management system in education that features convenient and efficient services, and complete digital yuan ecosystem.
