Nearly 60 businessmen from Taiwan gathered in Nantong City on Sep 23 to attend a workshop featuring Zhang Jian (1853-1926), who played an important role in China's early stage of modernization as he founded over 100 enterprises and 400 schools.

Jiangsu is one of the regions with the highest investment from Taiwan. From January to July this year, the province approved more than 430 new projects that involved an agreed investment of $3.2 billion from Taiwan. By the end of July this year, Jiangsu had 29,300 Taiwan-invested projects with a total actual investment of $84 billion. Among them, there are 6,500 projects over the investment threshold of $10 million.

Lian Yueqin, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of Jiangsu Province, said the province has always given priority to economic and trade cooperation with Taiwan and made it a key part of building an open economy.

Jiangsu will continue to support Taiwan businesses to invest and develop in the province, strengthen cooperation and exchanges in economy and trade, science and technology, culture and talent, she said.
