The Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge won the George S. Richardson Medal at the International Bridge Conference 2021 on June 8.
The massive bridge, which started operation on July 1 last year, is 11,072 meters long with a main span of 1,092 meters, making it the world's first road-rail cable-stayed bridge with a span of more than 1,000 meters.
Representing the highest level of bridge construction in China, the bridge can withstand strong typhoon, earthquake or the impact of a 100,000-tonne ship.
Presented by the Engineers’ Society of Western Pennsylvania, the IBC attracts bridge owners and engineers, policy makers and suppliers from the world. The IBC annually recognizes individuals and projects of distinction.
