Summer grain production totaled 13.8 billion kilograms, an increase of 69 million kilograms from last year, and about 9.5% of the country’s total.

The province also launched a spring and summer campaign to improve the environmental sanitation in rural areas, removing 4.2 million tons of household waste. Jiangsu also launched 1,202 major agricultural and rural projects in the first six months, completing 57.6% of the planned investment.

Jiangsu’s planting area of summer grain, production and economic benefit all increased and contributed to the country’s bumper summer harvest, said Du Yonglin, an official of the province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

Du also said the province also ensured supply of vegetables in the first half of the year, which totaled 11.5 million mu and generated production of 29.192 million tons. Meanwhile, fruit production was basically stable and spring tea saw the double increase in quantity and production value.
