The Port of Lianyungang in East China’s Jiangsu Province became the first in China to allow a new mode of freight transport for foreign trade on July 30.

An air cushion vehicle carrying the precision instrument of Guangzhou-based LG Display passed through the inspection of Lianyungang Customs and then directly boarded Harmony Yungang, a ro-ro/passenger ship, bound for South Korea.

This mode with the trailer and the cargo not separated in the process is an effective way to ship cargo through the multimodal transport. This also marked a new progress in the China-South Korea cargo transportation.

Since the establishment of Lianyungang Free Trade Zone in 2019, Lianyungang Customs has used the method to facilitate the transport of high-end, precision instrument imported from other countries. This year, new efforts are made to also help the transport of exports, such as offering customs clearance to both the trailer and cargo at the same time.

Lianyungang Customs has also streamlined the review procedures and increased the use of information technology, thus improving the safety and efficiency of shipping high-end instruments.

Since the launch of this service in December 2019, Lianyungang Customs has supervised 355 trucks and 707 TEUs, which involved freight worth 805 million yuan.
