Jiangsu Lianyungang Port reached a milestone in its development on February 14 as bulk carrier CK ANGIE, carrying 78,090 tons of fertilizer from APC, was moored at No. 82 Berth.
The vessel, 229.02 meters long and 32.25 meters wide, has a carrying capacity of 81,018 t DWT and a drought of 14.5 meters. Originating from the Port of Aqaba Industrial, Jordan, the vessel set a new record for the port in terms of the single largest delivery of fertilizer imported by SINOFERT, China’s largest fertilizer supplier and distributor.
Jordan is an important country in China’s "Belt and Road", and Lianyungang is the hub of the initiative. This delivery reflected the smooth cooperation among the three sides – the port, APC and SINOFERT.
Xu He, executive deputy general manager of the Oriental Port Branch, part of the Jiangsu Lianyungang Port, said the fertilizer will be transported to Jiangsu, Shandong, Anhui, Henan and other major grain-producing areas by train and trucks. The port will receive more fertilizer imports in the coming days as the farming season approaches.
Data showed the port imports more than 1.3 million tons of fertilizer every year. The import of potash is among the top in the country's coastal ports.
