Jiangsu's movie box office revenue reached nearly 717 million yuan during the 2023 Spring Festival holiday with 13.46 million movie-goers, both accounting for more than 10% nationwide, highest in provincial-level regions, according to the Jiangsu Film Administration.
Nationally, the revenue was more than 6.7 billion yuan, the second-highest gross figures for the holiday to date, with more than 129 million movie-goers in the holiday, said the China Film Administration.
In the coastal province, Suzhou had the highest box office revenue of 110 million yuan, followed by Nanjing, 98.24 million yuan, and Wuxi, 69.64 million yuan. The province's 13 cities all made it to the list of top 66 in the country.
Zhang Jun, manager of Wanda Cinema at Nanjing Xianlin Wanda Mall, said the movie theater with 12 screens attracted more than 7,000 viewers per day and the attendance rate reached up to 80%.
Cinemas in the province's town-level regions also posted a strong growth in the holiday and got the revenue of 154 million yuan with 2.94 million viewers, both more than 21% of the province's total.
