Jiangsu has recently released its first spatial planning for coastal and maritime areas, covering 37,500 square kilometers with a coastline of 954 kilometers.

The plan addresses various aspects including resource utilization, ecological protection, industrial layout, and residential environment.

It specifies that Jiangsu will primarily focus on conservation in its ecologically protected areas, with restrictions on developmental and construction activities. The province’s marine development zones will be structured to support the fisheries, tourism, and transportation industries.

To enhance living environment in the coastal zones, Jiangsu proposes strengthening pollution control at the source, promoting coordinated development among urban areas, towns and villages, with the aim of creating a livable and tourism-friendly environment.

Additionally, Jiangsu will intensify natural resource surveys and monitoring, establish a diversified funding mechanism, and encourage investment in ecological conservation.
