Cities across Jiangsu Province have strengthened their efforts to offer smart elderly care services, utilizing technology for remote monitoring, emergency response, and enhanced care.

The Outang Nursing Home in Wuxi City uses a robot named “Ouye” to guide residents, provide companionship, and assist medical staff. For example, the robot guides elderly residents who have finished their nap to activity rooms and the nurse's station.

Xu Guangqing, director of the nursing home, said that the robot was put into use in the second half of last year and has since greatly freed up manpower while enhancing the quality of elderly care services.

In Gusu District of Suzhou City, elderly residents, such as 91-year-old Mr. Zhong, are monitored using sleep mats that track vital signs, including heart rate and respiration. The data can trigger alerts in emergencies and is automatically transmitted to the phones of caregivers and family members.

In Nanjing’s Jiangbei New Area, the community center PHESC employs various technologies, including the Internet and artificial intelligence, to offer professional elderly care services. For instance, it cooperated with a company in late 2023 to introduce muscle exoskeletons to assist in rehabilitation for those with movement difficulties due to strokes.
