Jiangsu’s marine economy made steady progress in the first three quarters of 2024, achieving growths across all key marine industry chains.
During the period, Jiangsu completed shipbuilding projects totaling 16.012 million deadweight tonnes (DWT), an 8.0% year-on-year increase. The province’s new shipbuilding orders reached 39.535 million DWT, up 54.6% year-on-year, and orders on hand amounted to 89.301 million DWT, a 48.8% year-on-year increase. These three key shipbuilding indicators accounted for 44.1%, 45.4%, and 46.2% of the national totals, respectively.
The province’s offshore wind power generation increased by 9.4% year-on-year to 33.44 billion kWh, while the total installed capacity remained relatively stable at 17.656 million kW.
The total output of marine aquaculture in Jiangsu was 615,000 tonnes, up 5.7% year-on-year, while marine wild capture hit 365,000 tonnes, marking a 6.7% year-on-year expansion.
Ports along the coast and rivers in Jiangsu handled 2.16 billion tonnes of cargo, up 3.1% year-on-year, as container throughput rose by 10.4% year-on-year to 19.4 million TEUs.
Furthermore, Jiangsu has been committed to building an advanced marine information service system, with digital technology extensively applied in weather forecasting, environmental monitoring, and resource exploration. These efforts have enhanced the operational efficiency and safety performance of offshore wind farms and marine equipment manufacturing.
