A photography exhibition on late premier Zhou Enlai and China-Japan friendship opened in Beijing on September 26.

The touring exhibition was jointly organized by the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development, the Chinese Association for International Understanding, the Huai'an People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Zhou Enlai Museum in Huai'an, and Enlai Foundation in Beijing.

The exhibition shows nearly 200 rare historical photos including Zhou's study in Japan, promotion of people-to-people exchanges, normalization of bilateral ties and friendship of peoples of the two countries.

Zhou Bingde, founder of Enlai Foundation and also the late premier's niece, said Zhou not only studied in Japan in his youth but also was the Chinese leader who met the most Japanese friends in bilateral meetings. Zhou was sincere and wise in supporting extensive people-to-people exchanges and paved the way for the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan.

Former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda and Chinese Ambassador to Japan Kong Xuanyou attended the opening ceremony held in Tokyo.

With a review of the past 50 years, it's important to uphold peace and friendship as the shared core idea between the two countries and cherish the good momentum in bilateral ties, said Fukuda.

The exhibition in Beijing will run until October 7 and is free to visit. It will then open in Huai'an, Guangzhou, Kyoto and Sendai.
