Hanging couplets on the door is a traditional way for Chinese to celebrate Spring Festival, the Lunar New Year. But in Jiangsu Province, cities have made it a central part of new celebration by hanging giant couplets over the landmark city gates.

On January 26, Huai’an City kicked off the province-wide event at the Emperor Yao Ancient Town, a tourist attraction, in Jinhu County.

During the opening ceremony, the county’s Party chief He Baoxiang also handed over keys to new houses to six representatives of farmers, as a way to mark the progress in renovating rural houses. In this initiative, the county has improved the public service facilities and supported development of industries with distinctive local features and advantages.
