Jiangsu Province has opened two more purely government-financed institutions for the protection of minors in Yandu District of Yancheng City and Xinghua City, according to the provincial Civil Affairs Department on May 7.
Staffed by five people, the institution in Yandu District is mainly responsible for the care and protection of left-behind children and juniors in distress, including policy publicity. The government affiliated institution in Xinghua has six staff members and will promote the protection of the minors, offer policy and technical support, and organize training.
The establishment of a new institution indicates an effort to single out the work of protection of minors from the current relief system. In the past two years, Jiangsu has actively improved the location and transformation of children's welfare institutions, helping 22 of 63 institutions focusing on raising children to change into rescue and protection centers for minors in an orderly manner. Such efforts have laid a good foundation for the high-quality development of children's welfare institutions in the province.
