The High People's Court, the Department of Justice and the Department of Civil Affairs in East China’s Jiangsu Province jointly released a directive to strengthen legal assistance to beneficiaries in the social assistance system.
Legal assistance will be available to low-income families and those with financial difficulties as identified by the civil affairs department. Other beneficiaries include persons with severe disabilities but no fixed income, persons living on pensions and children in distress.
The scope of legal assistance will also be expanded to cover issues involving rural land rights, labour rights, farming, environmental pollution, compensation claim for accident and other pressing concerns related to life and livelihood.
In addition, the legal aid agencies will offer a "green channel" for those disadvantaged groups and try to handle the complaints as soon as possible. People with mobility difficulties should be offered legal service through calling or a home visit.
