Jiangsu will renovate 1,130 old neighborhoods home to 16,000 buildings with a total floor area of 38 million square meters and 428,000 urban families this year, according to a meeting on April 19 to promote the progress.
The planned total investment for this program is about 13.9 billion yuan. By the end of the first quarter, Jiangsu had started 133 projects, 11.8% of the total, and the rest is in the preparation stage.
Since this year, the province has installed and put into use 58 elevators in old neighborhoods. Efforts are underway to install 332 more elevators, and preparation for installing another 775 elevators is in full swing.
The renovation of old neighborhoods is a major project to improve people’s livelihood. After years of efforts, by the end of 2020, Jiangsu had renovated a total of 8,729 old neighborhoods built before 2000, which involved a floor area of 242.91 million square meters and more than 8 million people.
